Amas, Kidapawan City (March 19, 2021)- Cotabato Governor Nancy A. Catamco lauded the contribution of IP (Indigenous Peoples) women in the community which she said holds a very important role in the community.
“IP women plays a big role in the political structure of the IPs. We are the source of inspiration and we must be part of the solution not the source of the conflict,” the governor said during the 2-day Role and Rights of JUANA “Indigenous People Women” in Indigenous Political Structure Orientation Workshop held at the SCC Nightingale House Nature Farm, Midsayap Cotabato on March 18-19, 2021.
Governor Catamco also encouraged IP women to fight for their rights and empower themselves by knowing the consequences of their decisions.
“Nakita nato karon nga naay mga kababaihan who stands for their right, pero kita mismo biktima sa atong mga sariling choices. So kinahanglan kaila kita sa atong kaugalingon para makahimo kita ug tamang desisyon,” the governor said.
Governor Catamco is the first IP governor in Cotabato Province and one of her advocacies is protecting the rights of IPs, uplifting their living condition, and strengthening their communities.
Meanwhile, according to Provincial Government IP Affairs Coordinator Leah Icdang-Aurena Labrador, the activity was participated by 50 IP women from different municipalities of the province which aims to empower the IP women by giving importance to their roles and rights based on customary laws and Philippine law.
The said activity is in line with the celebration of National Women’s Month this March with the theme: Juana Laban sa Pandemiya: Kaya!//pgo-idcd//
